Dear Regina,
Senior year has been crazy already. AP classes, stressing over the thought of starting college applications, the stress of not starting college applications.  I haven’t had a single moment where I can just sit and relax. I’ve been dating this guy for a few months and every weekday I have homework and extracurriculars, every weekend I have work and more homework.  I feel guilty that my boyfriend is making a noticeable effort to see me whenever he can, and I haven’t. I guess partly this is because of my parents and their strict attitudes towards making sure I am on top of my grades.  Small breaks in studying or going out on nights that I don’t have excessive amounts of homework don’t hinder my performance at school, though. It’s frustrating and upsetting that my senior year is proving to be the hardest and will result in me sitting in my room working on homework or studying for a test rather than spending time enjoying my last year in high school.  Maybe I just need help balancing everything, I don’t know. Do you have any advice?

Sincerely,

Clairemont Senior

Dear Clairemont Senior,

I am so sorry your senior year has been so rough. Hopefully, things will calm down with a little more time once college applications or through. As for your boyfriend, if he truly cares about you, he would understand that school is important to you and you are trying to focus on that right now. Having strict parents can be tough but I’m sure it comes out of a place of love and they just want success for your future. I think the best thing to do is to sit down and talk with your boyfriend about your time and why you have been a little distant. Also, to speak with your parents explaining to them that you are stressed and need to set aside time to relax.

I hope things get better and you get into your top schools.
