On March 16th, 2018, many San Diegans were settling down for the night, but outside the SOMA concert venue in Midway, the night was just beginning.

Few are blowing up in the So-Cal music scene like LA rap group Shoreline Mafia. The group consists of four members: Ohgeesy, Fenix, Rob Vicious, and Master Kato. Shoreline released their debut album, “ShorelineDoThatS***,” on the first of November last year, and has spent their past few weeks touring the West Coast to promote it. Their eleven concert tour has gone from Portland to Denver, and has been sold out at every venue.

In fall 2017, the group received heavy fire in a story by Fox 11 LA, where they were criticized for their use of the drug “lean.” Lean, also known as “purple drink,” “sizzurp,” and “dirty sprite,” is a combination of prescription-grade cough syrup and soda (typically Sprite). Cough syrup contains codeine, a powerful opiate, and is considered addictive. The members of Shoreline Mafia were not happy being criticized, and took to social media to blast

ShorelineDoThatS*** is a heavy-hitting project, consisting of 14 songs. These include their most popular songs to date, “Musty,” “Bottle Service,” and “Spaceship.” Every song on the album begins with a small snippet of the Fox News story.

The fans of Shoreline Mafia are predominantly younger, from teenagers to younger adults. But with controversial and explicit lyrics, many parents are opposed to the group. Because of this, some teenagers were not allowed to go to the concert, despite it being an all-ages event. Many went anyways.

Shoreline Mafia was recently signed to Atlantic records for an estimated two million dollars.
