The brightly colored tin cans that hold water are no doubt popular, but is the Hydro Flask trend really worth the $40 price tag?

Hydro Flask was established in 2009 in Bend, Oregon by Travis Rosbach and Cindy Morse. They made a water bottle to keep their cold beverages cold on hot days at the beach. It then developed into an invention that is now a worldwide phenomenon grossing $1,000,000 in sales in 2011. Last year Hydro Flask made $210,000,000 in revenue, putting them in the top 500 fastest growing private companies in the world.

Although Hydro Flasks are just water bottles, look around your classroom, how many Hydro Flask’s do you see? In a typical classroom at CHS nearly every student has one or has a friend that has one. But, there are cheaper replacements for the Hydro Flask that have been shown to do the job just as good.

Hydro Flask have a lifetime warranty on all of their models and a patented steel insulator. You’re paying for something that you know is good quality and that it works. But, is the price tag of this Hydro Flask really worth it. Alternatives include a near replica of the Hydro Flask called Mira, which up of 18/8 grade steel and a two layer insulator. ”They cost too much,” Pedro Sigala a Junior and Clairemont High   claims. A cheap alternative known as Mira bottle can be found for $20 or less on places like Amazon. Hundreds of positive reviews on this website show that this is one of the best alternatives and is worth the $15-$20 price tag.

In conclusion, Hydro Flasks are really not worth the $40 price tag because there are cheaper alternatives that provide the same amount of satisfaction as a full price Hydro Flask. They may not include a lifetime warranty but, they will save you $20-$25 on your purchase with the same reliability as the well known Hydro Flask.
