Beauty and the Beast provides a new take on a beloved and a cherished classic, and is certainly worth a watch.

Myself, and many others, are thrilled to see that Disney is making live action movies based on animated originals. Aladdin, The Lion King, and Mulan are a few live action movies that are coming out in the upcoming years. Live action movies Disney has already made include Maleficent, Cinderella, Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast.

Beauty and the Beast was one of the most anticipated movies of 2017. When walking into the movie theater opening night, almost every seat was filled. I had high hopes for the film, and was not disappointed. The story was re-told impeccably, with amazing actors and magical elements.

This movie accommodates everyone’s needs. Whether it was a little kid seeing it for the first time on the big screen, or an adult reliving past memories, it was special and entertaining. It has action packed scenes that include Gaston and the Beast fighting for the heart of Belle. The film has blooming romances between unlikely lovers who are still trying to find themselves. It occasionally has comedy with witty lines and playful banter. When combined with the magic and fantasy, these elements turn the movie into a “tale as old as time.”

The characters are portrayed perfectly by the cast. Emma Watson not only looked beautiful as Belle, but provided a great performance. She brought the character to life by expressing Belle’s intelligence with her inventions, perseverance with her determination, and her courageousness when she saves her father and faces the Beast. Dan Stevens plays the Beast with integrity by displaying the right amount of obstinacy, combined with compassion deep within his heart; through this he perfectly portrays a shut in man who is still trying to find who he really is. The Castle Objects are portrayed properly as well.  The actors give the characters bubbly and warm spirits which are needed to make the film whole.

In the film, one of most iconic scenes was when Belle and Beast dance. The original dress Belle wore was very simplistic and beautiful on its own. The newer dress was different than before, which was upsetting, as it was one of Belle’s most represented looks. Even though I was let down with dress, the movie captured Emma Watson wearing and dancing in it beautifully. Belle and the Beast danced magically together, showing perfect chemistry. They put trust in each other and showed true romance. Along with the lighting and the mystical ballroom, I was left in awe of the magic it represented. With the elegance of the setting and role modeling of the actors, the iconic scene was well lived up to.

Beauty and the Beast is a classic, and the new adaptation did not disappoint. It was magical, and can appeal to many people. The movie was represented well by the cast and crew and by having the characters brought to life in outstanding ways. It had small flaws, but they didn’t affect the film as a whole. This movie lives up to the classic, and I recommend watching it.
