Last year, Alfie Nowak joined Clairemont High School as an athletic trainer. He is known for helping student athletes when they are injured during sporting events.

He was quickly accepted into the CHS “family” because of his easy-going manner, concern for others, and macho good looks.

Nowak was born June 12, 1991 at Middlesex Hospital in London, England. He moved to the United States when he was one and a half years old. His family moved to Atlanta, Georgia for a very short period of time because his dad got a job offer working on computer software, but the job fell through, so his family had to move to Chicago for about eight months. Shortly, after, he moved to Utah when he was about two years old. When he was five years old, his family moved to California.

Throughout his high school career he got injured a lot while playing soccer. In ninth grade, Nowak tore his meniscus and had to go to physical therapy. His high school did not have a physical trainer, so he used what he learned from his physical therapist when he was an student athlete. A few years later Nowak started to play soccer in college, he was always in an out of the trainer’s rooms. This was the first time he was actually exposed to what it is like to be a trainer. “From there it kind of grew into something that I wanted to do,” says Nowak.

It took Nowak seven years to get his degree in sports medicine. He first spent time at Irvine college and then at SDSU for four years to get his degree. He then got a job as an athletic trainer at Clairemont High School, later on he then got a job offer to teach in a classroom about sports medicine. Alfie helps all student athletes in the CHS sports program, but he only travels with the football team in case of really bad injuries.

Overall, Nowak is an amazing athletic trainer the student athletes and sport coaches at CHS are happy he is a part of the program.
