The Clairemont wrestling team is small but mighty. With only 20 to 30 people on the team the Clairemont wrestling team always strive for the best.

 

One freshman wrestler Aidan Birtness has started his wrestling high school career this year. Birtness knew he wanted to join the wrestling team when he was in 8th grade at Marston Middle School. Marston had a field trip for all the incoming freshmen so they can check out all the academies. When Birtness was looking at the academies, he saw all the list of sports that you can do at Clairemont High School and he saw Wrestling and knew that’s what he wanted to do. Birtness’s  favorite things about wrestling is just the whole sport in general, like what’s happening and all the things you can do.

A sophomore wrestler Catalina Yanez started her wrestling career this year as a sophomore. When Yanez was a freshman, she didn’t try out for the wrestling team but she went to the wrestling off-season practices and then she started to like it and one of the wrestling coaches, Travis Ricks, helped her with wrestling. Yanez favorite part about the wrestling program are that she is bonding with the team and having a good time.

Wendoly Cruz, a sophomore, also started wrestling this year. Cruz didn’t try out for the wrestling team for freshman year. But Yanez introduced Cruz to wrestling and Cruz started to go to the off-season wrestling practice and after that,  she knew she loved the sport. The most favorite things about the wrestling program to Cruz, are the tournaments and just bonding with the team.

For the wrestling matches, they are just one versus one but outside of the mat, it is great to be bonding with your team.
